Amugis
Amugis is a hardwood Philippine native tree. I planted 10 of these trees just this June 2022 at the beginning of the rainy season. I saw an adult Amugis tree at UP Diliman College of Science circle, they are sooo beautiful trees and because of that, I was enticed to add them in my collection of native trees. Shown here at 1 feet tall.
I am often confused with a Dao and an Amugis seedling, as a young tree their leaves looks the same to me. I got a tip from my nursery supplier that Amugis trees have a dark brown bark or trunk and as seedling, grows slower than Dao.
Now you know my secret, before I buy which tree to collect, I go to UP Diliman to check their 'showroom' of Philippine native trees. I would assume that they have planted these trees in previous decades, because judging from their height and looks, many of them looks more than 20 years old.
